Koolaid, originated from a drink mix, Kool-Aid, is now a general term used to describe a kind of passion or "physics of passion" evolved around something of interest. This phenomenon of large number of followings on the subject of interest has come to be called "drinking the koolaid".  The term probably has made popularized by DHH the creator of Rails and Kathy Sierra who maintained the highly popular Created Passionate Users blog.
